FDC vs ER Collets
ER collets are a widely used holding solution however there are drawbacks.
Many are cheaply made, they need extra seals for each size (excluding NT ER collet holders), and have lower accuracy and poor runout
NT Tool’s FDC collets have a more gradual taper angle, which generates an even gripping force along the cutting tool.
Compared to ER collets grabbing primarily at the neck of the holder meaning weaker grip force and off center tools.
FDC-OH and FDC-C self seal with metal seal and do not require any seals or different caps to allow coolant.
ER collets are screwed in while inserted, this tilt leads to runout. FDC are pushed in give the same accuracy every time.
Less runout leads to longer tool life.
FDC-AA collapse range of 0.5mm // FDC-OH/C collapse range of 0.5
ER 0.5mm~4.5mm = collapse range of 0.5mm while 5.0mm and larger = 1.0mm collapse range
